Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide are manufactured by electrolysis of sodium chloride and potassium chloride, respectively. Although there are a "mercury method", the "diaphragm method", and an "ion-exchange membrane method" in the method of electrolysis, but taking the opportunity of outbreak of Minamata disease, the mercury method was abolished in Japan in 1987, them the production procedure in being replaced with diaphragm or ion-exchange membrane method. In our company, various kinds of pellet type alkali products are manufactured by condensing and pelletizing the alkali solution produced by the ion-exchange membrane method.

The fragile flaked type alkali product in likely to generate powder and it solidifies when absorb moisture due to its large contact area. while small contact area of pellet type alkali product leads to low hygroscopicity, large apparent specific gravity and not bulky.
