Chemicals are used widely in our daily life and greatly contribute to the development of technology. However, some chemicals can be dangerous and we may not be provided with adequate knowledge of their danger or toxicity. In case hazardous chemicals are handled inappropriately or abused, there is a possibility this could have a significant adverse effect on human health and the environment.
Therefore, at Kanto Chemical, Inc., we set up the "PL Committee" in 1995 and "General Safety Executive Committee" in 1996, each as inter-departmental organizations in our company. These committees have actively promoted various policies and measures for our customers’ safe use of our products, protection of the environment, and prevention of chemicals from misuse.
Companies are engaged in the business of growth and profit but they also must run their businesses in alignment with their corporate visions through active communications with stakeholders* and contributions to the sound development of society.
Since our company founding in 1944, we have been working behind the scenes in support of the progress of science and technology by providing reagents and semiconductor chemicals to our customers. We are now committed to operate our business on the basis of positive contributions to society.
The "CSR Committee" was created in April, 2005. We have progressively changed the previous "PL Committee" and "General Safe Executive Committee" and re-organized them into this "CSR Committee". We have now centralized our efforts the CSR Committee, which continuously works to promote "CSR" activities to all employees as a single organization.
* The stakeholder generally means an individual, a corporation, or a group, such as, the customers, the suppliers, the owners of a firm, the shareholders, the employees and their families, the local residents, the local government, the bank holding their interests, or anyone else who have an interest in, or are affected by, the result of our corporate activities.
Main Activity Themes
We are committed to following five items as main areas of focus in our operations. In selecting this theme, we thought over the following ideas, "What should we do? How much can we contribute to society if we did it? How much negative effect may we have on stakeholders if we did it?" We are always conscious as a chemical manufacturer and responsible for society.
Enhancing compliance
It is said that there are hundreds of regulations related to chemical substances. We have ensured strict compliance with all relevant legislations. We must be responsible to comply with the laws and regulations, and even when no applicable laws and ordinances exist, we will practice self-restraint and carry out responsible management actions, including if there is suspicion of chemical misuse.
Stable supply of reliable products
By supplying reagents and electronics chemicals, our company has greatly contributed to the economic development and progress of science and technology in Japan. We supply a large number of key products that are “the gold standard for diagnostics and measurement.” Because of this, we have responsibility to maintain a stable supply of reliable products.
To prevent environmental pollution due to chemical substances
We think that environmental pollution by chemicals and their wrongful use has an extremely large and negative impact on society. As a chemical company, we attach weight to the activity of preventing fire, leakage, theft, and loss of toxic substances as one of the first priority items of CSR, as well as, to secure the safety of local residents and our employees.
To prevent the misuse of chemical substances
We handle a lot of dangerous substances and hazardous materials. It is a natural obligation for us to prevent their abuse.
Reduction environmental load
Entire departments in our company are committed to several activities in order to reduce loads on the environment, not to mention the energy conservation and the saving resources. Because it’s our duty as a global citizen that we work on environmental conservation, even if the degree of environmental load which our waste of energy causes might not be so bigger than the other corporate giant's one.
