Rapid Bacterial Strain Typing for Research and Epidemiological Investigation

Cica Geneus™ POT KIT Series is a molecular genotyping tool designed for research, epidemiological analysis, and infection control–related investigations.
By enabling rapid strain-level differentiation of bacterial isolates, POT kits support molecular epidemiology studies, outbreak investigations, and surveillance activities conducted in research laboratories and hospital-associated research settings.

Overview of POT method

POT(PCR-based ORF typing) is a multiplex PCR–based method that detects the presence or absence of selected open reading frames (ORFs) distributed across bacterial genomes. Each isolate is assigned a numerical POT type, which allows
・ Objective comparison between isolates
・ Data-driven epidemiological analysis

The method is optimized for speed, reproducibility, and ease of use in routine molecular biology laboratories.

Key Features

・ Rapid genotyping workflow
-  From DNA extraction to result interpretation in approximately 4 hours.

・ High strain discrimination
-  Provides strain-level differentiation comparable to conventional molecular typing approaches.
such as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) or Multi locus sequencing typing (MLST).

・ Simple laboratory requirements
-  Compatible with standard PCR instruments and agarose gel electrophoresis systems.

・ Digitized data output
-  Numerical POT values facilitate data comparison, record keeping, and long-term surveillance studies.

・ Reproducible and standardized
-  Suitable for longitudinal and multi-site epidemiological research.

Intended Applications

・ Molecular Epidemiology Research
-  Analysis of bacterial population structures
-  Retrospective comparison of stored isolates
-  Multi-center surveillance studies

・  Infection Control–Related Investigations
-  Research-based assessment of isolate relatedness
-  Support for outbreak investigation studies

・ Academic & Industrial Research
-  Methodological studies
-  Comparative typing research
-  Validation of epidemiological hypotheses

⚠ Research and Surveillance Use Only

Typical Workflow

1. DNA extraction from bacterial isolates
2. Multiplex PCR
3. Agarose gel electrophoresis
4. Band pattern analysis
5. Assignment of numerical POT type

This streamlined workflow minimizes hands-on time while providing reproducible genotyping results.
